Episode 2 - The History of Fusion Research with Dr. Stephen O. Dean

Since co-founding the Fusion Power Associates in 1979, Dr. Stephen O. Dean has been a voice for fusion research in Washington, D.C. In this episode, we go through Dr. Dean's career and weave it into the broader story of fusion in America. We take you back to the 1950s and discuss the roots of this field in weapons research. We touch on both the Atomic Energy Commission and Project Sherwood. We move on to the 1970s, when the Cold War and the oil crisis pushed the U.S. to make significant investments into fusion. Using a 1970s documentary, we touch on the pinch, mirror and tokamak fusion approaches. We zoom through the Ronald Reagan years and the genesis of ITER. We talk about the cold fusion fiasco.
